BRITTNEY’S STORY: LEUKEMIA, LOVE AND A 100KM RUN

Brittney Tancowny's life changed the day she was told she had leukemia. The very sound was like a death knell. Newly married...an aspiring career...dreams of a family. What happened to her "happily ever after?" Brittney says, "My story involves leukemia but its really about how God has been doing his work in my life and my family and friends’ lives. GOD'S LOVE AND PROMISES The cancer took over so quickly that the 2nd day into my chemo my body began to shut down. The cancer was on full attack and determined to take my life. I was put into a temporary paralysis. I spent 6 months in and out of the hospital with 4 bone marrow biopsies, 4 rounds of…

IN THE ROUGH

The rough - its a destination for which my golf ball never needs to ask directions. Recreational and professional golfers alike, end up in it. It can be a place of intimidation or immortality. Some of the most memorable victories in the PGA or LPGA are of pros who made improbable shots out of the rough. In golf, championships are won not by avoiding getting into the rough but by successfully getting out. Life is much the same way. Life's UnFair Way To be in the rough is to be off the fairway. The rough feels unfair, frustrating, discouraging, and stands in the way of success. All too often, life resembles golf: our lives end up "in the rough" and…

APOLOGETICS ISN’T APOLOGIZING

As I sat in my room I remember thinking, “I have believed there was a God for as long as I can remember, but why do I believe it? I knew that if someone asked me to offer a reason for why I believed God existed I would have nothing to say.” This, from the heart of a young adult. Why Do You Believe? Christians abandon their faith because they are not prepared to answer some of the simplest arguments against God. Why do you believe what you believe? Knowing what you believe gets you to the starting line. Know why you believe gets you across the finish line. Erich and Laurie Reule are parents of four beautiful daughters. Erich…

9 REASONS ISRAEL SHOULD BE ON YOUR BUCKET LIST

Israel is where east meets west; where the ancient collides with the modern. Jerusalem is the city of Gold, just 3,000 years young and a melting pot of culture. Is a trip to the Holy Land resting gentle on your mind if not on your Bucket list? 9 Reasons Israel Should Be On Your Bucket List 1. Go in 2019. LETTING GO: SHAUNA’S STORY

You can only hang on by yourself for so long. Letting go can become a surprising path to freedom. Many years back my sister was trying out hang gliding in Mexico. After some impromptu instructions the boat towing the glider took her out over the ocean. When she came back she told us she had hung on as long as she could thinking that letting go would land her in the water. When her strength faded so did her choices. She let go and stayed in the air. Shauna Ncube is from North Cooking Lake, Alberta and spent time in Nara, Nara Japan. She is a wife to Nigel, mom to Keenan and Ian and a friend to many. In…

HOW TO TOUCH THE HEART OF GOD

I was on the bottom bunk, sitting on the fuzzy yellow blanket from Grandma. It was a comfortable place to get a revelation. The phrase – Bless the Lord - came traipsing through my nine year-old consciousness. What my mind could not grasp my spirit responded to and I resolved that if I could, I would bless the heart of God. I met Julianna Christensen at her interview for ministerial credentials. Julianna grew up on the mission field and presently serves at West Edmonton Christian Assembly. She exudes a contagious enthusiasm for prayer and seeking God. So I asked her to share her experience as inspiration for others to "bless the Lord". How Do The Created Bless The Creator? How…

PRECIOUS HERITAGE OF PERSECUTED FAITH

She held her breath under the church floorboards fearing the sickening thud of her mother’s body. Her terrified mind reeled, considering how horribly life had changed since the invasion from the North part of Korea. This is a guest post from Dr Ron Powell about his wife, Anna's mother. Ron is the Youth Ministry Director and Field Education Director at Vanguard College, Edmonton, AB. He and his family are volunteer leaders at North Pointe. The Piano Sure, they were poor and fatherless but in my mother-in-law, Myung Ja Kim’s mind, life had been ideal. She remembered when the Christian pastor had come to the village to start the little church. The best thing about it for her was the piano.…
