Larry Beardy travelled by train from Churchill, Manitoba, to the Anglican residential school in Dauphin, Manitoba—a journey of 1,200 kilometres. Larry remembers that as soon as the younger children realized that they were leaving their parents behind, they cried. He called the trip the "train of tears."
Resilience is the ability to withstand, adapt and grow in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy and stress. It’s the ability to transcend despite all the odds. Resilience is the single quality we all need now to go where no one has gone before.
It’s now 8 a.m. in Israel as I type this. I am bleary-eyed and nervous. I second-guess every noise I hear. Is that the rumble of a garbage truck? Or is it Iron Dome? Is that a siren in a neighboring city? Or is it an ambulance or the noise of my kids watching TV?
Dear Quinn and Lena, my granddaughters. I know you’re too young to read this now. I’m writing before the fact so that whatever happens in your life, this note will remind you of important, unshakable truths.
