A CLASSROOM CALLED “LIFE” Uncategorized

A CLASSROOM CALLED “LIFE”

You are part of an education in unconditional love. Every person you meet is your homework. Life is the classroom. God is the teacher. You are His student. Life long learners go to the head of the class. Problems are simply part of the curriculum. Sometimes you may feel like you're failing but this is when you are learning the most. What doesn't challenge you, doesn't change you. In school you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In God's classroom you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson. Jesus turns tests into testimonies, messes into messages and trials into triumphs. Pain doesn’t mean God is punishing you; He is preparing you. Trust His plan not your pain.…

THE MOST VALUABLE QUALITY IN A MAN Uncategorized

THE MOST VALUABLE QUALITY IN A MAN

What is the best measure of a man? Is a man a man because of his biceps, triceps or concepts? Is it strength, toughness or kindness that makes a man? Or is something else? Garry Lefebvre: A True Gentle Man One of the toughest and the most gentle man I know is Garry Lefebvre. He served as an elder and a leader of men at North Pointe Church. His wife Sandy, their four children and grand kids knew that best. Garry was a two-time Grey Cup champion. His award-winning CFL career spanned a decade in which he played wide receiver and punter for the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes. Tough? Garry played through a broken ankle, dislocation and shredded ligaments…

OUR CHOICE: A WORD TO THE CHURCH ABOUT CHILDREN AND YOUTH Uncategorized

OUR CHOICE: A WORD TO THE CHURCH ABOUT CHILDREN AND YOUTH

I had a front row seat to witness the profound results of a choice. We'd just concluded the first week of summer Day Camp at North Pointe. The entire facility was turned over to our Children's Ministry team so that kids to experience "Cave Quest: Following Jesus." North Pointe came alive with over 200 energetic campers and leaders on site. North Pointe’s Children’s Ministry delivered a multi-media rich, entertaining and inspiring presentation entitled, “The Choice” on a Sunday morning. Of the seventy plus participants, 90% are less than 5 feet tall on their tiptoes (that includes one of our vertically challenged adult leaders). They did us proud as they took us on a journey of choices from the first verse…

CHASING THE DRAGON: JACKIE PULLINGER’S STORY Uncategorized

CHASING THE DRAGON: JACKIE PULLINGER’S STORY

What do you do when the one thing you want is the one thing you can't have? If you want to make history, you do what Jackie Pullinger did. At the age of 21 she'd just graduated from London's Royal College of Music but Asia, not arias, was in her dreams. Ever since she was a little girl, Jackie wanted to be a missionary. A Crazy Good Plan She had a small savings account, little influence and no organizational support for her missionary longings. She sought advice from a minister. He  told her that "she should buy a ticket for a boat going on the longest journey you can find and pray to know when to get off the boat."…

PROMISES OF 313 YEARS OF MARRIED LIFE Uncategorized

PROMISES OF 313 YEARS OF MARRIED LIFE

I was in a meeting with seven veteran leaders from North Pointe. As I looked around the room it dawned on me that we all had one thing in common - marriage. Some quick math revealed we totaled 313 years of marriage experience. Surely we must have something good to offer others from our experience. So I asked them their secrets to wedded bliss. Secrets of Happy Marriages "Be flexible.  Blessed are the flexible." "Marry a great girl." "Embrace the journey!" "On our 32nd anniversary I gave my wife a sympathy card." "Find a spouse who is easy to get along with." "To keep your marriage brimming with love in the loving cup, whenever you're wrong, admit it; whenever you're…

Rachel’s Story: Thankful For New Beginnings Uncategorized

Rachel’s Story: Thankful For New Beginnings

Rachel Fallah's son, Prince, is married. What an incredibly joyous, vibrant and colorful wedding! (Rachel is in yellow below) Rachel's journey is remarkable given she arrived in a foreign country with nothing and today she has everything. At her son's wedding she was surrounded by friends and family from around the world, however it is her peace-filled spirit - free from bitterness - that she treasures most. Here's her story. REFUGEE FROM WAR In 2002 I came to Edmonton as a refugee from Sierra Leone with my son, Prince. All we had in the world was each other. The war in our home country had taken everything from us – our family, our home, our possessions. Our nation was devastated…

WHEN LIFE THROWS YOU A CURVEBALL Uncategorized

WHEN LIFE THROWS YOU A CURVEBALL

I just happened to get hit with one of life’s curve balls. It fooled me; I didn’t see it coming and I certainly wasn’t prepared. The internal injuries were severe. There were days I didn’t think I would survive such trauma. Clearly, there were no winners in this game. No one gets married with the intent to get a divorce. Wendy Connors played fastball since she was a young girl and was picked up by many teams, winning several championships along the way. I love how Wendy uses her love for fastball to share a portion of her life story. Wendy's leadership skills and devotion helped start North Pointe's Divorce Care ministry, the Single and Parenting ministry and the Singles…

THE BIBLE: WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? Uncategorized

THE BIBLE: WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

The Bible is a book that has talking animals, wizards, witches, demons, sticks turning into snakes, food falling from the sky, and a person who walks on water – who wouldn’t want to read it? There are lots of things in the Bible for you, including the power to change your thinking, your beliefs, your future, your health and your relationships. FIVE REASONS TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE BIBLE 1. The Bible heals broken hearts.  There's a story of a rabbi who always told his people that if they studied the Torah, it would put Scripture ON their hearts. One of them asked, "Why on our hearts, and not in them?" The rabbi answered, "Only God can put Scripture inside.…
