Many Voices – One Clear Choice Uncategorized

Many Voices – One Clear Choice

How does God work in drawing people to a faith in Jesus Christ?  This is Dr. Ron Powell's story.  Ron is the Youth Ministry Institute Director at Vanguard College in Edmonton and is equipping pastors be a voice for their generation. He is an avid blogger at YouthMinistryUnleashed  It’s not just one influence that brings a soul to Christ. In my case, there were many different voices that led me to one clear choice. You may be surprised to see the variety voices God uses to save a life. My Parents My dad lost and found his Scottish Presbyterian faith in the front lines of Korea. When he returned to Montreal, he married Shirley Knowles a staunch Anglican. Together they…

LAURIE’S STORY: FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION

Laurie understands what it is to descend into addiction and hopelessness. She used to live there. Laurie also knows what's it like to find freedom and wholeness. What Can a 60 Year Old Say to Youth? Uncategorized

What Can a 60 Year Old Say to Youth?

Dr Ron Powell allowed me to guest post on his blog, YouthMinistryUnleashed. Ron and his family have been a part of North Pointe Community Church for the over 10 years. He has been on a mission of pastoring and teaching youth ministry for the past 29 years and currently is the Youth Ministry Institute Director at Vanguard College in Edmonton.  “Pastor, would you speak at our youth retreat?” My quick response surprised Jeremy, our youth pastor, not just because I seldom respond quickly but because it was an enthusiastic one. And it was heartfelt. There was no need to pray, think, ponder or mull over this decision. “Yes!” When I preach on Sundays at North Pointe there are youth in…

Its Not a Goat…Its a Future.

“I wrote this in response to a World Vision gift my sister gave on my behalf—a goat. LIVING WITHOUT JIM Uncategorized

LIVING WITHOUT JIM

“My best friend was in heaven. And I was still on earth.” Sue Keddy chose those bittersweet words to begin the story of her husband, Jim’s, sudden death and her life without him. What unfolds is an inspiring, raw account of grief, faith and courage. She has my gratitude for sharing her journey. Sue's story is personal for me. THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE: COACH PAGANO’S STORY Uncategorized

THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE: COACH PAGANO’S STORY

Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia Sept. 26, 2012, just days after his third game as a first-year head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He was immediately admitted to hospital for treatment. The Colts, 1-2 at the time and coming off a 2-14 season, returned to Lucas Oil Stadium to play the powerhouse Packers from Green Bay in their next game. Coach On The Sidelines Pagano watched the game from an Indianapolis hospital room. I watched the game as well and saw wide receiver, Reggie Wayne, carry the team and his coach, on his back. Wayne violated the NFL's strict uniform policy by wearing orange gloves and an orange mouthpiece (the color signifying leukemia awareness). He led the Colts in…

The Top 10 Verses of the Bible Uncategorized

The Top 10 Verses of the Bible

25,000,000 Bible searches can't be wrong. BibleGateway.com is my favourite site for sourcing Bible verses from multiple translations. I've wondered - "Which Bible verses are the most popular?" The people at BibleGateway.com beat me to the punch. They thought it would be interesting to find out which verses were searched the most. So they crunched some numbers from a (relatively) small sample of 25 million Bible passage searches from March and April 2014. Their list considered instances in which BibleGateway.com users looked at three or fewer verses at one time. If you’re curious to know what the least popular Bible passage is, it’s 1 Chronicles 23-27, which details the organization of the priests and officials under King David. The top…

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING Uncategorized

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING

There are extreme moments that rivet themselves, forever, into our memory. JFK’s Assassination The Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster 9/11 and The Twin Towers Anyone can remember exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard “the news.” October 22, 2014 – was another one of those days. WHERE WERE YOU? Where were you when you heard the news? I was preparing a message series for Sundays in November entitled, “Operation Impact.” The day before, CF-18’s had taken off from Cold Lake, Alberta, enroute to Kuwait. The fighters were Canada’s “boots in the air” to take on Islamic terrorism in Iraq and Syria. The evening before, Canadian Defense Minister, Rob Nicholson warned, “Canada faces a clear and present…
