Leading Bravely

An essential behavior for any leader is the act of bravery. Bravery is not a moniker that can be bought… it cannot be self-appointed. Bravery is not attributed to everyone, but is reserved for those whose innovation in their industry cause them to stand out from the crowd, whose unyielding effort and error push their organizations into new territories, and whose boldness compels them to stand up for those less fortunate. These are The Brave Ones. The Brave Ones have existed throughout history. Some are unforgettable icons, others names will never be remembered. They exist across all industries, societies, and at every level of leadership. 14 QUOTES FROM ANDY STANLEY 1. Myth – Bold leadership is reserved for bold people.…

JARED’S HOPE Uncategorized

JARED’S HOPE

Jared Hope was on a fast track to what most Canadians would call “The Canadian Dream.” His Junior hockey career was powered by a winning mix of skill and ambition. Originally from Edmonton, he'd been playing in Spokane, Washington since he was 16. Between 1995 and 1996, as scouts lined him up for a first round NHL draft pick, he had three consecutive concussions and was forced to walk away from a pro hockey career. "I remember a counselor telling me I was experiencing a mid-life crisis. She said the depression was normal." Jared didn't feel normal. Building on Ego Determined to build a new life, Jared moved back to Edmonton. He graduated college, went into sales and was making…

THE CROSS EQUALS LOVE

Jesus came as the answer to the question, "Why won’t God do something?" In the horrific shadows of the murderous cruelty of terrorists, killer storms, kids dying from cancer, the ungodly suffering of vulnerable people...God gives an answer. God's Answer God offers Himself. He gives His best. "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 (NLT) Jesus, the Son of God and Son of Man is God's way of healing a broken world. Right On Time "Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented…

PROMISES OF 313 YEARS OF MARRIED LIFE Uncategorized

PROMISES OF 313 YEARS OF MARRIED LIFE

I was in a meeting with seven veteran leaders from North Pointe. As I looked around the room it dawned on me that we all had one thing in common - marriage. Some quick math revealed we totaled 313 years of marriage experience. Surely we must have something good to offer others from our experience. So I asked them their secrets to wedded bliss. Secrets of Happy Marriages "Be flexible.  Blessed are the flexible." "Marry a great girl." "Embrace the journey!" "On our 32nd anniversary I gave my wife a sympathy card." "Find a spouse who is easy to get along with." "To keep your marriage brimming with love in the loving cup, whenever you're wrong, admit it; whenever you're…

RYDON HAROLD BOUCK’S STORY (UPDATED)

Rydon's parents believe in miracles. They watched their preemie son fight for his life with the aid of doctors and nurses in two hospitals and the prayers of family and friends each breath of the way. "Thanks again to everyone at North Pointe for your prayers and support. Words cannot describe how blessed we feel to have come so far." Looking at Rydon now, you'd never know the journey he's been on, so read about it below. Rydon Bouck faced more dire circumstances at 25 weeks old than most people experience in 25 years or an entire lifetime. On January 13, 2015, Rydon Harold was born to Kolby and Elise Bouck – son #3. Elise had endured a very difficult…

ST PATRICK: MORE THAN SHAMROCKS AND SNAKES

March 17th is St. Patrick's Day - a fun excuse to wear green, speak with an Irish accent and drink green colored beverages. But there's so much more to the day and the man, Patrick. The Saint Ain't Irish Patrick is probably the best known "saint" in the world. Typically, establishing clear insight into people who lived over 1500 years ago is a challenge because of a lack of information. Patrick presents the opposite challenge - there is so much written about him that it is hard to separate fact from folklore. What we do know for sure is: * Patrick was English not Irish. * Patrick did not wear green. * Patrick did NOT drive all the snakes out…

If this was the ONLY book you read this year by a Christian leader you would draw the incorrect conclusion that the Church reeks. I think it rocks...and I think deep down Jim Cymbala feels that way too. He is negative about the state of the Church, critical of pastoral priorities and practices and is of the opinion that very little good or godly is going on in North American ministries. Hard to Argue With Prayer Pastor Cymbala repeatedly states that he has written the book out of humility and concern and certainly not from a perspective that he has all the answers. He then goes on to give his answer to all of the problems in the Church –…

Shawn’s Story: Wrestling For My Life

Shawn Michaels made his career in an industry that often has no basis in reality. It is a world of "the camel clutch," "pile drivers," and "submission holds." In his biography, "Wrestling For My Life" Michaels tells the story of a different kind of submission hold - one that was based in reality. I watched him grapple with the likes of "The Undertaker," "Ravishing Rick Flair," "Triple H" and "Stone Cold Steve Austin" in the WWF and the WWE. Michaels was one of the bad guys - a wrestler and a man people loved to boo - cocky, arrogant and self-centered. He was a self-described addict, drunk and a pill-popper. He lives his life now in the center of reality…

ARE YOU IN GOD’S WAITING ROOM? Uncategorized

ARE YOU IN GOD’S WAITING ROOM?

WAIT is a word we hate...at least I do. I get frustrated waiting on fast food or waiting behind the slow car in the fast lane. Aren’t we all in a rush to get to the next place or the next thing? My cell phone battery malfunctions at the worst of times. “I just had 34% battery life and now it's dead!” Waiting for the phone to recharge only takes a few minutes but feels like eons. “Come on!” We live in one of the most individualistic cultures in the world, which means we want what we want — and we want it now, and it better be quick and easy. Waiting on God An impatient mindset often carries over…
