SIGNS AND WONDERS TODAY

Supernatural manifestations or signs and wonders, as described in the Bible, will always capture the attention of people. A sign or wonder in the life of a hurting individual effectively communicates the love that our Father has for mankind. Signs And Wonders I had just entered the Spirit-filled life and, of course, all of this “supernatural stuff” was totally new to me. One particular incident tremendously impressed me. Two brothers I had recently met became dear friends of mine. Both were filled with the Holy Spirit. I decided to “hang out” with them in order to learn as much as I could from them - a good strategy because the things of God are more likely to be caught than…

THE SILVER LINING OF POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD)

There were many things in my life that were not planned nor desired. Developing PTSD certainly was not one of them. Nor was the assault that lead to it. For me, it was like waking up in a foreign country. An outsider, within my own life. Josee St Onge was a teen in our West Island Youth group in the 80's. We love our Lakeshore family and we've kept in touch over the years. She posted this story in early 2017. I reached out to Josee in light of "Me Too" and asked permission to share her story here. Thank you, Josee. Revision Even the simplest of tasks required a revision of each step in order to be able to…

BULLIED, BENT BUT NOT BROKEN

I'm 36 years old and living a life that is a true testimony to the healing powers of God. I experienced my first anxiety attack when I was in early elementary school, but it wasn’t until I was sixteen that I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Until then I was labeled as extremely shy and introverted. Lana Berry, her husband Mark and their children Kristen and Joshua are a vibrant part of the church family at North Pointe. Her story of God's work in her life is shared to offer hope to fellow sufferers. Losing Friends, Jobs And Hope I was bullied throughout elementary and junior high school. Growing up, my anxiety worsened. I lost job after job due…

GRACE OF MANY COLORS: HEATHER’S STORY

When I first held Heather Enright's book in my hands I knew I was touching a rare treasure.  Grace of Many Colors isn't your typical coloring book. Before even one crayon touches a page of this book it gives off a colorful hue of hope. My friend, Colleen passed the book on to me. She heard Heather's inspiring story about creating her book. "It was scary, thrilling, surreal and inspiring to produce this book. It was a labor of love to redeem back everything that cancer had stolen from me. I'm using it to help anyone battling cancer - for every book purchased I'll give one away to a cancer patient." At first, Colleen couldn’t think of any friends with…

ABBA’S BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER: A SADLY TRUE STORY

This guest post is from a woman I know who is courageously sharing her story about childhood sexual abuse so that others can find hope, freedom and healing. My home life growing up was quite dysfunctional; I am the youngest of four, and knew from an early age that my mother never planned for a fourth child. My parents were both quite emotionally disconnected from me and looking back, I now see my emotional neediness even as a young child. My mother was a very heavy drinker and on medication for depression for years. She often threatened to leave when us kids got on her nerves. My father was explosively angry and prone to rage, and I rarely if ever…

ANGELA’S STORY: NO ONE LEFT BEHIND

I'm writing this to you because I have to, because my "inside" voice says I need to. I follow the blog you write and I'm inspired and I can relate to many of the stories I have seen written.  We have been attending North Pointe for some time and over the years it has become home to us. Several Bumps Along The Way In the time that we have been attending our lives have had several "bumps" along the way, one of those bumps has been my cancer diagnosis.  When you hear the word cancer you begin to think about your life, the good, the bad, what have I accomplished, what do I still need to do. I read a…

To Write Love on Her Arms

Jamie Tworkowski, didn’t set out to start a nonprofit organization. All he wanted to do was help a friend and tell her story. When Jamie met Renee Yohe, she was struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury, and suicidal thoughts. He wrote about the five days he spent with her before she entered a treatment center, and he sold T-shirts to help cover the cost. When she entered treatment, he posted the story on MySpace to give it a home. The name of the story was “To Write Love on Her Arms.” Renee's Story "Renee is 19. When I meet her, cocaine is fresh in her system. She hasn’t slept in 36 hours and she won’t for another 24. It is a…

LEARNING AGAIN: FIRST STEPS AFTER CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

I don’t remember asking my mom to teach me to walk. In fact I don’t remember much about the process – stand, stumble, fall, repeat. I was on my knees in prayer one day when all those thoughts came running through my mind. I paused my prayer and through a tearful smile I said, “I get it.” When What's Supposed to Be, Isn't You see there are certain things in life that are meant to be natural – we are to learn them before we realize we are learning and they should stick with us our whole lives – like walking. But sometimes an injury, disease or catastrophic event comes and causes what’s supposed to be, to cease from being.…

16 LESSONS OF HOPE FOR THOSE WHO HURT

Emotional wounds, while not as clearly evident as physical ones, are just as painful and your body reacts to this type of pain as to a physical wound. Some positive person said that "suffering perfects our character." That’s not guaranteed. Some people become meaner and intolerable to live with because of suffering. Oswald Chambers says suffering “only perfects one type of person…the one who accepts the call of God in Christ Jesus.” I’ve known Leta Montague for over ten years. Leta went through the pain of her husband leaving, a divorce and then alienation from family. She hit rock bottom – emotionally, psychologically and sometimes physically. Leta chronicles her journey to forgiveness and healing in her book, "Open Wounds, Open…
