11 Reasons Why Down is The Way Up

“Down” is a word usually reserved for losers and the bear market. “Down” is a word that colors whatever it touches… downfall, downcast, downhill, downhearted, down and out. Down, as the way up, is counter intuitive and counter cultural. Enter - Gilmore Junio. On February 11th, 2014 no one besides his family, coaches and teammates were familiar with his name. On February 12th, 2014 most Canadians knew who he was. Junio, a Canadian Olympic athlete, qualified for the finals in the Men’s 1000-metre speed skating event. He had trained and dreamed of this opportunity for over four years. He gave it up so a teammate, Denny Morrison, could get an opportunity to compete. Why? Because he believed it was in…

The Happiness Equation: Money + Generosity

“Money can’t buy happiness. “ That’s the common proverb, but its not true. Money can buy happiness…you just need to know what to spend it on. Just ask P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadians. He said, "It's not about the money; it's about leading by example and bringing a community together. 7 THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT FREEDOM FROM A PRISONER NAMED SAMSON Uncategorized

7 THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT FREEDOM FROM A PRISONER NAMED SAMSON

“A small bird flew overhead and landed atop one of the army trucks. It opened its beak and began to sing a song of springtime, its voice sweet, clear and free. Samson stared at the bird long enough to burn an image of it into his mind, a picture of freedom that he would hold onto.” A 1936 Olympic Boxer Samson: A Saviour Will Rise is based on true stories, woven together by Shawn Hoffman in a novel of historical fiction that is hard to put down and harder to forget. 10 IRRESISTIBLE ASPECTS OF JERUSALEM Popular

10 IRRESISTIBLE ASPECTS OF JERUSALEM

In January 2014, I sat in Row B at IMAX for a one-of-a-kind, 3D immersion into parts of Jerusalem and the Holy Land that most tourists and pilgrims never see. I was hooked. Over the past three decades I've always declined invitations to lead a tour to Israel. Not that I don't revere "the Holy Land" but I never felt compelled to travel there. Now, Jerusalem had become irresistible. Within a week of viewing the film we booked a tour to Israel and Jordan with International Tours. We're going back again in March 2019 and you could join us. 10 Irresistible Things About Israel and Jerusalem 1. Jerusalem, not Toronto, is the center of the Universe. Jerusalem lies close to…

11 QUALITIES OF TRULY CONFIDENT PEOPLE

"Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” Dale Carnegie 11 Qualities of Truly Confident People 1. A MIRACLE ON 2300 TUPPER STREET

"It is rare for a hospital to publicly credit a miraculous recovery to prayer and divine intervention." That's how a friend of mine introduced THE news story she sent to me.  The story was reported on December 30, 2013 in "Le Journal de Montreal." Dr. Sherif Emil Call it a coincidence, an accident, or maybe even luck or fate. But every now and again you come across a “miracle” - a patient, who against all odds, survives and thrives even when everything was stacked against them. On June 4, 2013, Dr. Sherif Emil, a surgeon at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, had just begun his week on call, when he received an urgent page from the pediatric surgery fellow. The prognosis…

A RESPONSE TO BULLYING Uncategorized

A RESPONSE TO BULLYING

The "Leave It to Beaver" model of society from the early 1960s is a distant memory. Today, rude rules.  Reality television programs showcase domestic and social interactions driven by narcissism, competition and selfishness. From road rage in the morning commute to high decibel cell-phone conversations that ruin dinner out, behaving badly has become the hallmark of a me-first, bully world. Schoolyard to Facebook Bullies Today's students face the age old issue of "school yard" bullies. They also face a more painful emotional and relational bullying on social media. Facebook can become "Hatebook" and Instagram, Snapchat and Kik hold their own kind of danger. Teens across Canada have been driven to despair because of bullying on social media. Some have taken…

A Bible Reading Plan for You

It’s the START that STOPS the average person. Don't get stopped at START. Here are three things that have made a big difference in getting me STARTED everyday in reading the Bible. 1. Prioritize. First things should be first. Its so easy to become distracted. Before I read anything else, I read a portion of the Bible. Just doing that reminds my spirit that the Bible is vital for my life. 2. Digitize. I use the Youversion Bible app on my smartphone. Its free. Its easy to use. It makes the Bible handy. I can instantly access a couple of dozen versions if I want to see a verse from different angles. I use a printed version of the Bible…
