“My name is Cordell Banks. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and I am an Alcoholic.”

Since finding freedom from alcohol Cordell Banks has been a pain in the Devil’s side. Cordell shared his inspiring story when he was baptized as a follower of Jesus on Sunday March 12, 2017 at North Pointe.

He’s a strong supporter of others looking for deliverance. Cordell’s courageous vulnerability offers hope for those dealing with pain through addiction.

I Drank To…

… cope with all of life’s pain and challenges.

… cope with the pain of not knowing love or how to love.

… cover up the shame, guilt, embarrassment, fear and anger for many years of abuse.

I drank to fit in.

And as a solution to cope with the death of my mother and father as a result of drunk driver and a tragic car accident.

An Alcohol Solution

Alcoholism is a progressive disease that worsens over time. In the end stage of my disease, I could not do anything without the help of alcohol.

Today I know that alcohol was a solution to a life problem.

I had an alcohol solution not an alcohol problem.

Rock Bottom And AA

One of the many rock bottoms in my life was when I woke up at the bottom of my basement stairs in a pool of blood with the police and paramedics treating a large head wound.

Soon after this I arrived at an AA meeting a broken man. I was emotionally, physically and spiritually bankrupt.

I was terrified, sweating and cold. Daily, I was experiencing delirium tremors unless I was medicated with booze.

But that was the beginning of my salvation.

Restored By God

I have been saved by God. I accepted Jesus into my life and I’ve been sober for eight months (as of this writing).

Jesus showed me how to forgive everyone in my life who has trespassed against me. Forgive and be forgiven.

God helped me make amends with everyone in my life that I have trespassed against.

Jesus helped me deal with my character defects and a large ego. He reduced my fears and anxiety. My obsession for alcohol has been taken away. I now have my health back, my emotional stability and God is working miracles in my life.

My life has been restored by God.

Walking Freely With God

Today I walk in the light of God and I worship Jesus. I have surrendered my life and control to Jesus to guide me through life. Alcohol was controlling my life. I did not want a drink but I needed to drink. Alcohol will take your life one way or another if you let it.

I am free today. I’m at peace. I know love and how to love.

God has removed my obsession to drink. My life problem has been restored by God. I owe my life to Jesus Christ.

On March 12th I chose to be baptized to kill my earthly sins and surrender my life to Christ.
