FROM SIBERIA WITH LOVE: THE BANTSEEVS

.It started small with only three people at first. The Bantseevs, Janet & Ilya and their infant son, Josh. An immigrant to Canada, Ilya was from Russia, so at least he spoke the language. But it was tough slogging when the Lord called them to plant a church in Ilya’s home town of Novokuznetsk…a city of about a half million in central Siberia (a four hour plane ride east of Moscow). HEARING GOD’S VOICE: SHERILYN GRAFF’S STORY

When you look up "determined" in the dictionary you'll find Sherilyn Graff's image. Sherilyn is a recent high school grad from North Pointe who followed her heart to serve in world missions. She is a rough and tumble rugby player with a gentle spirit. She's determined to make her life count for God. Sherilyn shares her heart in this post and lets you in on a powerful spiritual experience she had in hearing God's voice. Follow Sherilyn's journey on her Facebook page. This fall, I attended a Discipleship Training School (DTS) through an organization called Youth With a Mission (YWAM). The vision of my program is to send out a ‘wave of youth’ into the world to do missions work,…

WARNING: CONTAGIOUS PASSION AHEAD

Elmer and Sherry Komant's places of mission service read like a travelogue through hell. Kigali, Rwanda; Bujumbura, Burundi, Mombassa, Kenya. The Komants led a church in a Muslim controlled city in Kenya, faced the after effects of genocide in Rwanda and planted a church in the poorest country on the continent of Africa. They recently survived a political coup in Burundi. And at an age when most Canadians are focused on retirement, they show no signs of tiring let alone retiring. Komant Adventures The Komants have been held up at gunpoint and had their lives threatened in more ways than one. Elmer nearly died of brain cancer forty years ago. At times they've lived oceans apart from their children. The…

FEARLESS IN BURUNDI: THE KOMANTS’ STORY

Look at their smiles. They appear to be a typical, retired Canadian couple holidaying in some exotic, faraway place. The Komants are anything but typical and certainly not retired. Elmer and Sherry Komant are North Pointe's partner missionaries serving in Bujumbura, Burundi. They know what it is to be fearless. Consider their description of neighborhood gunfire as "pressure cooker popcorn." They've faced hostile governments, financial challenges, strange foreign customs, and Elmer's diagnosis of inoperable brain cancer, thirty years ago. Seniors Strong The Komants successfully planted churches in Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi. They are in their 60's and still going strong. At an age when most Canadians are retiring the Komants ramped up their commitment to serve. In 2014 they…

THE FLYING BOW: TREVOR DICK’S STORY

When Trevor was four years old, his dad tragically died in a car accident leaving his mom with seven children to raise on her own. His parents were medical missionaries and had moved to Nigeria from Canada in the 1960’s to plant a hospital, and serve people in a little village called Iyale, deep in the tropical rain forest of central Nigeria. FEAR AND FAITH As a result, Trevor grew up with some deep insecurities and fears: the fear of his future without a dad, the fear of death, and the fear of separation from his family. He was that child who asked the tough questions like: “Why did daddy have to die? “ and “Why did God take daddy…

2000 YEARS OF JESUS BUILDING HIS CHURCH

The animated map contained in this post is a powerful visual depiction of the most important movement in history: the spread of Christianity. Every frame is one year in the last 2000 years of the Great Commission. Watching the video inspires me. I can see in a few moments what Jesus saw 2000 years ago as he hung on the cross. He has built His Church and "the gates of hell" have not prevailed. 2000 Years of Jesus Building His Church Charting the geographic progress of the Gospel over the last 2,000 years includes the stories of the apostles' journeys, the outposts of the early church, the hotbeds of persecution, the staging grounds of the Church’s major theological battles and…

The Komants’ Adventure In Burundi

Elmer and Sherry Komant are our partner missionaries serving in Bujumbura, Burundi. They planted the first English speaking church in the capital, have been in the middle of the attempted military coup and have seen hundreds of people becoming followers of Jesus. Burundi is one of the poorest countries in Africa. The Komants planted a church just two years ago. Their courage and commitment are inspiring. Please read and pray for them. May 14, 2015 about 05:30 It was a noisy night for many here in Bujumbura, but because the power never went off, our faithful antique fan roared the night away. It wasn't till about 5:30 this morning that we really heard the huge blasts.  A little deafness CAN…
