26 CHOICE BOOKS FOR YOU Uncategorized

26 CHOICE BOOKS FOR YOU

You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read. What are you reading today? I chose the following books as my Top 26 for two reasons: 1. I could recall the title and the author's name. I have hundreds of books in my library and though I've read them all I cannot recall them all. These I can. I've met some of the authors in person and own autographed copies of their book. They left a deep impression on me. 2. The content of the books have formed my personal perspective, principles, and practices. They address theology, personality, healing, prayer, relationships, marriage, parenting and leadership.…

THE GIVING TREE: BARBARA MEYER’S STORY

It all began with mittens. Mittens, hats, gloves and an old, somewhat battered Christmas tree in my school library. I wanted to do something...to start something to give the gift of warmth at Christmas and to provide an opportunity for our junior high students to be reminded that not everyone is well cared for at Christmas. By after Christmas, and with God’s grace, the boughs of the tree were hanging low under the weight of the bounty - a veritable menagerie of mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. This is a guest post by Barbara Meyer. Barbara is a Jazz vocalist & pianist with 25 years of international performing experience. Solo, duo, trio, big band, orchestra soloist. She is a school…

14 COURAGEOUS INSIGHTS TO VULNERABILITY

Is your life an open book? Isn't it true that we fear others will discover, to our detriment, the broken parts of our lives? Keeping the book closed is safe but leads to missing out on the freedom that comes with vulnerability - your own freedom and the power to set others free. Your willingness to be vulnerable gives others the beautiful gift of going second. 14 Thoughts On Being Vulnerable 1. “To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you…

To Write Love on Her Arms

Jamie Tworkowski, didn’t set out to start a nonprofit organization. All he wanted to do was help a friend and tell her story. When Jamie met Renee Yohe, she was struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury, and suicidal thoughts. He wrote about the five days he spent with her before she entered a treatment center, and he sold T-shirts to help cover the cost. When she entered treatment, he posted the story on MySpace to give it a home. The name of the story was “To Write Love on Her Arms.” Renee's Story "Renee is 19. When I meet her, cocaine is fresh in her system. She hasn’t slept in 36 hours and she won’t for another 24. It is a…

THE CROSS EQUALS LOVE

Jesus came as the answer to the question, "Why won’t God do something?" In the horrific shadows of the murderous cruelty of terrorists, killer storms, kids dying from cancer, the ungodly suffering of vulnerable people...God gives an answer. God's Answer God offers Himself. He gives His best. "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 (NLT) Jesus, the Son of God and Son of Man is God's way of healing a broken world. Right On Time "Christ arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t, wait for us to get ready. He presented…
