Mary, the Palestinian Cinderella, inspires some of the best Christmas music.
Mark Lowry crafted the lyrics of a song that’s become a Christmas favorite on par with White Christmas and Silent Night.
The lyrics of Mary, Did You Know? ignite imaginations with some of the deepest mysteries of Christmas.
Lowry’s mother, Bev, gave him the spark of his original idea.
What did Mary know?
Mark says, “I just tried to put into words the unfathomable. I started thinking of the questions I would have for her if I were to sit down & have coffee with Mary.”
He wondered if Mary realized the tiny hands of her infant were the same hands that scooped out oceans & formed rivers.
Did she know that “the blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will live again, the lame will leap, the mute will speak?”
Did she understand that “When you kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God?”
Christmas, at its core, is a celebration of the Incarnation.
We are reminded that the baby to whom Mary gave birth would walk on water, heal the broken, and save us.
Mary’s baby boy is “Lord of all creation” and, in fact, “the great I AM.”
Jesus entered our reality in order to save us, to make us new, to heal us, and to die for us as heaven’s perfect Saviour.

This is my absolute favorite Christmas song and I truly love every version. I first heard the Michael English version on a Christmas trip with my family but I have to say I’ve moved onto Kenny Rogers version and then I listened to the Pentatonix version above. Now I have a NEW favorite.
I also adore a similar song by Todd Agnew where he asks what Jesus knew growing up called “Did you know?” On his Christmas album “Do You a See What I See?”

This is a favourite in our house!! The group Pentatonix is one of my favourites, and I was so excited when I saw that they recorded Mary Did You Know on their new Christmas album. I’ve probably listened to it more than 30 times already this season. This song is a perfect blend of Christmas and worship music. (John Cameron’s solo version was probably the first time I heard the song and I fell in love with it during the Tree)

Robert Fulghum (the author of “All I really need to know I learned in Kindergarten”) wrote a story about the author of Jingle Bells, John Pierpont in his book entitled, “It was on fire when I lay down on it”. I love this song.the group on Tuesday at Seniors sang it with great anointing.sometimes Mothers see great potential as they cradle their beautiful babies.But Mary’s insights by the Spirit we will have to wait to discover.

Mary Did You Know is one of my very favourites. I love this version by the Pentatonix. Another favourite is How Many Kings by Downhere.
