UNSTOPPABLE: YC 2015

YC Alberta is in the history books. “For King and Country” have left the stage at Rexall Place, in Edmonton. The huge roar of the massive crowd is still ringing in the ears of over 10,000 students, leaders, speakers, and volunteers. The sounds are silenced, buses rolled out and sleep deprived teens are posting their pics to Instagram for all the world to see. There will be a few less students than normal in classes on Monday morning. YC is LOUD and intense, flashy, entertaining, energizing and tiring and did I say LOUD? I am a big fan of YC and Mike Love's Extreme Dream. (Read or scroll to the bottom to see the official aftermovie of YC2015) 3 Reasons…

A TIMELY GIFT Uncategorized

A TIMELY GIFT

The handwritten note reads, “I’m really sorry, I don’t have money to give to God’s church. Please accept my watch as I want to offer it to God as my thankfulness.” The words are written on the back of an offering envelope. The person’s name was on the front. The Gift and the Giver The envelope was unopened and carefully sealed. I had the impression I was holding a priceless treasure. Inside the envelope was a woman’s watch. It was a “Citizen” brand, “Eco-Drive,” well worn. No numbers on the watch face – just lines. The watch reminded me of one my mother wore. The giver noted - “no batteries needed as it is a windup watch.” It kept perfect…

The Komants’ Adventure In Burundi Uncategorized

The Komants’ Adventure In Burundi

Elmer and Sherry Komant are our partner missionaries serving in Bujumbura, Burundi. They planted the first English speaking church in the capital, have been in the middle of the attempted military coup and have seen hundreds of people becoming followers of Jesus. Burundi is one of the poorest countries in Africa. The Komants planted a church just two years ago. Their courage and commitment are inspiring. Please read and pray for them. May 14, 2015 about 05:30 It was a noisy night for many here in Bujumbura, but because the power never went off, our faithful antique fan roared the night away. It wasn't till about 5:30 this morning that we really heard the huge blasts.  A little deafness CAN…

PRAYER AND THE SNEEZE: FACTS MATTER Uncategorized

PRAYER AND THE SNEEZE: FACTS MATTER

"This is a true story" - so says the email headline. Can you tell truth from fiction? Do the facts matter in this feel good story? THE STORY "It happened at Eastern Shore District High School in Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova  Scotia. They walked in tandem, each of the ninety three students filing into the already crowded auditorium. With rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt. Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and moms freely brushed away tears. This class would not pray during the commencements, not by choice but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting it. The principal and several students were careful to stay within the guidelines allowed…

JARED’S HOPE

Jared Hope was on a fast track to what most Canadians would call “The Canadian Dream.” His Junior hockey career was powered by a winning mix of skill and ambition. Originally from Edmonton, he'd been playing in Spokane, Washington since he was 16. Between 1995 and 1996, as scouts lined him up for a first round NHL draft pick, he had three consecutive concussions and was forced to walk away from a pro hockey career.
