HERE COMES JOEY PILGRIM!

There's a lot to like about Joey Pilgrim. The man is a multi-talented wonder with a pastor's heart. He's sports savvy - cheering for Connor McDavid and which ever team Connor plays on. He's a musician and an artist and has effectively served alongside Jeremy Gifford as an intern in our Youth and Young Adult ministry. We're excited to welcome Joey, a recent grad of Vanguard College, to his full-time role as a pastor to Young Adults, Youth and IT/Computer/Media Support. He's already got a supportive crew of young adults and youth who look forward to seeing what God will do in and through them. Take a moment and get to know Joey. I’m proud to say that I’m a…

OUT OF THE WOODS

Anomaly Youth knocked it out of the park with "Out of the Woods" today at North Pointe. A modern day parable using video, drama, humor and music, "Out of the Woods" communicates complex spiritual truths in a clear, understandable way. Brock who longs to prove himself and fit in just to be accepted. Andy who follows the book to a "T," trying…

3 CONFESSIONS OF A LEAD PASTOR TO PASTORS OF YOUTH

I have a confession…actually, three of them. They relate to pastors of youth, like North Pointe's Jeremy Gifford who is one of the finest pastors I know. That's not my confession...its my conviction. Some people view the role of a youth pastor as a "stepping stone" to becoming a "real" pastor. Not me. I served as a pastor of youth for ten years of my thirty-six year pastoral ministry. Those ten years were some of THE best years that I experienced as a pastor and I've had a lot of great years. Read my 3 confessions here... I write to inspire people to be real, grow an authentic faith in Jesus, enjoy healthy relationships and discover their life purpose. If…

Canadian Insights for US Church Leaders on Same-Sex Marriage and Youth

In most cases, Canadians play catch-up with American leaders on social issues, but here's two issues where Canadians can offer some leading insights. 1. Some Advice on Same Sex Marriage For US Church Leaders From a Canadian Carey Nieuwhof is a pastor in Barrie, Ontario. His recent blog post on same-sex marriage has been shared over 100,000 times and counting. Canadian pastors are ten years ahead of our US colleagues in dealing with legalized same-sex marriage. Nieuwhof says, "If you believe sex is a gift given by God to be experienced between a man and a woman within marriage, why would you expect people who don’t follow Christ to embrace that? Why do Christians expect non-Christians to act like Christians?…

UNSTOPPABLE: YC 2015

YC Alberta is in the history books. “For King and Country” have left the stage at Rexall Place, in Edmonton. The huge roar of the massive crowd is still ringing in the ears of over 10,000 students, leaders, speakers, and volunteers. The sounds are silenced, buses rolled out and sleep deprived teens are posting their pics to Instagram for all the world to see. There will be a few less students than normal in classes on Monday morning. YC is LOUD and intense, flashy, entertaining, energizing and tiring and did I say LOUD? I am a big fan of YC and Mike Love's Extreme Dream. (Read or scroll to the bottom to see the official aftermovie of YC2015) 3 Reasons…

What Can a 60 Year Old Say to Youth?

Dr Ron Powell allowed me to guest post on his blog, YouthMinistryUnleashed. Ron and his family have been a part of North Pointe Community Church for the over 10 years. He has been on a mission of pastoring and teaching youth ministry for the past 29 years and currently is the Youth Ministry Institute Director at Vanguard College in Edmonton.  “Pastor, would you speak at our youth retreat?” My quick response surprised Jeremy, our youth pastor, not just because I seldom respond quickly but because it was an enthusiastic one. And it was heartfelt. There was no need to pray, think, ponder or mull over this decision. “Yes!” When I preach on Sundays at North Pointe there are youth in…
