REST FOR THE BEAT UP AND BURNED OUT

Every Sunday at North Pointe's celebrations, anyone can come as they are. We drink coffee, laugh, worship, learn, pray, hug, love. Most importantly, we recover our lives. This Is Who We Are Over eighty four nationalities are represented in the community of North Pointe. We are characterized by multiple languages, ethnicities, educational backgrounds, preferences and styles - but one priority – a personal relationship with Jesus. North Pointe is a Bapticostal-Anglican-Reformed-Catholic-Lutheran-Charismatic-Alliance community of single, married, divorced, remarried, pre-believers, seekers and fully devoted followers of Jesus. We're a plurality of race, culture, style, socioeconomics, politics, language, ages, marital status - and a singularity in devotion to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Come As You Are The Church is imperfect but…

WANTING MORE OF GOD

I want MORE of God. I want MORE of God who is not created in my image. I want MORE of God who accepts people who are painfully aware they could be wrong in their beliefs. I want MORE of God who knows my infallibility and allows room for me to err on the side of mercy and grace. I want MORE of God who is a friend of sinners and the conscience of the self-righteous and died for both. (Isaiah 53:12; Matthew 23:25-28) I want MORE of God who allows the righteous to suffer and the unrighteous to prosper, in this life. (Romans 5:3; Psalm 73:3) I want MORE of God who designed marriage to be for life and…

WHY WE SAY “COME AS YOU ARE”

North Pointe is known as the “come as you are” church on 167 Avenue in Edmonton. Why do we say, "Come as you are?" More Than A Welcome We take our cues from Jesus. He said, “Come to me all who are loaded down with burdens and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) That’s an invitation to anyone and everyone – the burned out, the discouraged, the overachiever, the non-religious, and the _________ (you fill in the blank). "Come as you are" is an invitation to freedom because that's what Jesus offers. He doesn't give added burdens. He gives rest. The kind of "rest" Jesus provides is more than the refreshing of a good night's sleep. Its rest for…

THE GRACE EFFECT

What does Christianity give us beyond televangelists, potlucks, and bad basketball leagues?  Not much, according to some.  The world, they say, would be a better place without Christianity. That's where a story like "The Grace Effect" can change hearts and minds. The "grace effect" is an observable phenomenon that life is demonstrably better where authentic Christianity flourishes. An Odd Couple The book opens with a story about a truly odd couple - the Christian author, Larry Taunton and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author of God is Not Great. Taunton hosted Hitchens at numerous debates on the existence of God across the US. After one such debate Hitchens challenged Taunton with a question about what Christianity has done for society, lately.…
