The Lemonade Stand Millionaires

Sydney and Taylor Woodworth and their friends don’t just turn lemons into lemonade, they masterminded an endeavour that helps seriously ill children find hope and in the process learned that giving makes you feel like a million dollars. 2022 is the 13th and final year for the Lemonade Stand. Their work is one of the top feel good stories of my life. (more…)

Crying By the Roadside

A picture has been on my computer desktop for the last six months. It is a really pretty picture, but that is not why I didn’t delete it or file it away. Honestly, until a few days ago, I had no idea why I felt to return and look at it every few days, but God was trying to tell me something. The story left me crying on a roadside. (more…)

JORDAN’S JOURNEY FOR A CURE

Pete and Christa Gagnon started 2016 with good cheer for family and friends: “As the New Year approaches us with new hopes, here is wishing you and your family a wonderful year ahead.” Four days into 2016 I received an email from Christa.  She said their 5 year old daughter Jordan had been ill. It was serious. Doctors’ initial diagnosis was leaning towards GAN - Giant Axonal Neuropathy - a rare, incurable, terminal, genetic disorder. Say that last phrase again - slowly - to let it sink in on you. (more…)

BIBLE READING PEACE PLAN JANUARY 2019

This is the Bible reading plan for January 2019. Peace from putting God first. The daily passages address a perspective on putting God first in your life and trusting his provision for your life. The passages encourage generosity and humility. 1 Chronicles 29:11,12 - "...everything in heaven and on earth is yours...wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things." 2 Corinthians 9:6 - "...whoever sows generously will also reap generously." Proverbs 3:9 - "Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits..." Proverbs 11:24,25 - "One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds it unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; who ever refreshes others will himself be refreshed." Philippians…

7 THINGS KIDS DO TO CHANGE THE WORLD

"What can kids do? They're too young to make a difference." Don't tell that to Sydney Woodworth and her crew at "The Lemonade Stand." While none of them are old enough to get their beginner driver's license they all have enough drive to move mountains. Plus, they've been changing the world for nine summers now. Sydney was awarded "Superstar" status in July 2016 for organizing the TOP FUNDRAISING GROUP for the Stollery. Jesus said, "Whoever becomes as a humble as a child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Faith is not childish, its child-like and its what moves mountains. Adults can learn important lessons from kids and what they are doing. 7 Things Kids Do To Change the…

WHY WE SEND YOUTH MISSIONS TEAMS

Like many others before them, the Anomaly Missions Team to Mexico returned home far richer than they left. Their increase wasn't in gold or gems but in priceless experiences and golden memories. Pastor Jeremy Gifford has been leading ministry teams south of the border for the past six years. Every trip, like every team, is unique. The 2016 team consisted of eighteen members, aged fifteen to twenty three along with Pastor Jeremy and Kerri Wagensveld (whose age remains a closely guarded secret). Peter and Bonnie Kozak from North Pointe moved to Vicente Guerrero, Mexico to serve as missionaries over a decade ago. They've hosted all of our missions teams. The onsite ministries include an orphanage, special needs care, a halfway…

THE GIVING TREE: BARBARA MEYER’S STORY

It all began with mittens. Mittens, hats, gloves and an old, somewhat battered Christmas tree in my school library. I wanted to do something...to start something to give the gift of warmth at Christmas and to provide an opportunity for our junior high students to be reminded that not everyone is well cared for at Christmas. By after Christmas, and with God’s grace, the boughs of the tree were hanging low under the weight of the bounty - a veritable menagerie of mittens, gloves, hats and scarves. This is a guest post by Barbara Meyer. Barbara is a Jazz vocalist & pianist with 25 years of international performing experience. Solo, duo, trio, big band, orchestra soloist. She is a school…

5 REASONS THIS PASTOR LOVES THE CHRISTMAS SEASON

I love the Christmas season! I’ve only been doing the pastor thing for 36 years and I can’t speak for every pastor’s experience but my experience with Christmastime has been rich. 5 Reasons I Love Christmastime 1. The sounds of Christmas are glorious! How can you beat, “O Come All Ye Faithful,” “Silent Night,” or “Joy to The World” as calls to worship and devotion? Bring on the 24-hour-Christmas–music radio stations. Christmas carols are singable – even for those who can’t hold a tune. Most everybody knows at least the first verse from a dozen carols. The music is majestic and the lyrics are hallmarked by expectation, joy, faith and wonder. I get to work with some of the best…
