THEY CALL ME JFRANKTANK: JAMES FRANKLIN

As a professional football player, James Franklin has learned to avoid getting sacked by 300lb rushing lineman and the crushing weight of unfulfilled dreams. Franklin played his last NCAA college game by winning the 2014 Cotton Bowl in front of a national TV audience and 72,000 fans in Arlington, Texas. He now spends all of his game time for the Edmonton Eskimos on the sidelines signalling in plays to Mike Reilly. His faith, family and focus have kept him in the game. Positive Parents Franklin was born in Edmond, Oklahoma, on July 23, 1991. His father’s ministry work kept them on the move when he was young, taking them to Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Missouri before setting in Corinth, Texas, when…

THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE: COACH PAGANO’S STORY

Chuck Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia Sept. 26, 2012, just days after his third game as a first-year head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He was immediately admitted to hospital for treatment. The Colts, 1-2 at the time and coming off a 2-14 season, returned to Lucas Oil Stadium to play the powerhouse Packers from Green Bay in their next game. When The Game Stands Tall

"It's only a game." Only those who know football understand how far away that sentiment is from the truth. "When The Game Stands Tall," is a must see movie based on the 151-game winning streak of the De La Salle Spartans and coach Bob Ladouceur. It took seeing the film to remind me of how much I miss coaching football players. Its staggering to think that my sons played a combined 33 seasons of football between them from Atom to the CIS. For a few of those years I had the pleasure of being called their “Coach.” A SPORTS BAG FULL OF MEMORIES Watching the film brought back a flood of fond memories: the yellow school bus ride to and…

ALS: HOW GOD CAN USE A TERMINAL DIAGNOSIS

Jeremy Williams was known as the "Georgia Assassin" when he played NCAA football for the University of Memphis. Today, the legs that carried him to gridiron glory now rest on the metal base of a wheelchair. His lungs, which at one time were used to inhale oxygen deeply after a long run, are controlled by a ventilator, and his voice, which gave speeches, encouraged teammates and coached players, is silenced. He uses his index finger to push the wheelchair's trigger to move his machine. He and Lou Gerhrig share an athlete's heart and a disease's death sentence - ALS. A Family Is For Facing Life Together After graduation from Memphis, Jeremy married Jennifer, his high school crush and their first…
