HOW A SEVERE ANXIETY DISORDER LED ME TO A WORLD RACE

When I got the call that told me that I had been accepted to participate in the World Race, I was completely shocked. While I had spent the past couple of weeks trusting that God had planned what was best for my future, I had a nagging feeling from the day that I submitted my application that I would not get in. The reason? I didn't think that a girl with a severe anxiety disorder would be looked at as a viable option for spending nine months living out of a backpack and traveling the world. Simply put, I believed that I was way too messed up.  When you meet Maya Kuipers, the first thing you notice is her confident…

FEARLESS IN BURUNDI: THE KOMANTS’ STORY

Look at their smiles. They appear to be a typical, retired Canadian couple holidaying in some exotic, faraway place. The Komants are anything but typical and certainly not retired. Elmer and Sherry Komant are North Pointe's partner missionaries serving in Bujumbura, Burundi. They know what it is to be fearless. Consider their description of neighborhood gunfire as "pressure cooker popcorn." They've faced hostile governments, financial challenges, strange foreign customs, and Elmer's diagnosis of inoperable brain cancer, thirty years ago. Seniors Strong The Komants successfully planted churches in Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi. They are in their 60's and still going strong. At an age when most Canadians are retiring the Komants ramped up their commitment to serve. In 2014 they…

FEARLESS IN AUSTRALIA: DANIELA’S STORY

Over the years, I’ve heard the phrase “God is in the business of changing hearts” repeated countless times, and I am living proof that God does exactly that. Music has always been an important part of my life, and I’ve been passionate about its every aspect. Many of my fondest memories are of learning to play new instruments, having jam sessions with friends, and more. This guest post is from Daniela Martins. Daniela followed her heart to Australia on January 19th, 2016 to pursue ministry development at Hillsong International College. She started leading worship on Sunday mornings at North Pointe when she was just 17 years old. That says a lot about her and Pastor Sean Morton for empowering youth…

FEARLESS: THE RUTTENS and KOZAKS

Here's what two of North Pointe's missionary families know about being fearless. Brian and Val Rutten have served in Addis Abba, Ethiopia for the past 20 years. "We support Church planters into a very difficult and dangerous area in North Ethiopia where there is severe persecution from the dominant religion of the area. Many times believers have been severely hurt by those hostile to the gospel. The believers there wanted to hold special meetings, "even if it brings persecution," and they invited me to speak. I felt I should honor their wish and stand with them. They set up a small shelter of tarps in the back yard of one believer. Opposition As we entered the town and began the…

HONEY AND BETTS: HANNAH KAUP’S STORY

Finding courage, strength and beauty in the midst of challenges is a life long journey of discovery. Hannah Kaup experienced surprising ways in which God brought these qualities into her life at just the right time and she is generously sharing those discoveries. This is a guest post from Hannah – a stay at home mom, wife to Matthew, mama to Annaliese and Abigail - and founder of Honey and Betts! As a young mom, wife and believer I have to be fearless in my faith and I try to spread the truth to many broken people. I've discovered that my timing and God's timing are not the same, and it is my journey of my acceptance of that that I…

16 KEYS TO LIVING FEARLESSLY

Fear of rejection, heights, looking stupid, not getting the job, or not being good enough - whatever the fear, it can cruelly twist you out of shape. Fear may be good for keeping you safe but it will sideline your life from doing things that matter. I know that to be true because the list above holds some of my fears. I've relied on the following keys to persistently face fear. 16 Keys to Living Fearlessly Key #1 - A fearless life does not mean you fear less, it means you've found a purpose more powerful than your fears that emboldens you to act in spite of your fear. Key #2 - Living fearlessly is not acting foolishly or behaving…
