A GREAT commitment to the GREAT commandment and the GREAT commission makes a GREAT Christian.

The GREAT Commandment
Mark 12:28-31 – “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

The GREAT Commission
Matthew 28:18-20 – “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Where do I stand with the Great Commission?
i) Am I a disciple? – a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ?

“A disciple is not simply an accumulator of information or one who merely changes moral behavior in regard to the teachings of Jesus Christ, but seeks a fundamental shift toward the ethics of Jesus Christ in every way, including complete devotion to God.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

ii) Am I making disciples? Who am I influencing for Jesus? God wants to work through you to being hope, healing, forgiveness to those around you. Step out in faith and share the gospel.

iii) Am I obedient to Jesus? Its not about perfection…its about devotion.
“The call to discipleship…sets the Christian in the middle of the daily arena against sin and the devil. Every day he encounters new temptations, and every day he must suffer anew for Jesus Christ’s sake. The wounds and scars he receives in the fray are living tokens of this participation in the cross of his Lord.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

iv) Have I been baptized in water?
“We surrender ourselves to Christ in union with His death—we give over our lives to death. … When Christ calls a man, He bids him come and die.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Our next water baptism is Sunday Aug. 7th. Call 780-452-5566 to let us know you want to be baptized.

v) Is my lifestyle one of intentionality? – GO into all the world is best interpreted “as you are going” be intentional about sharing Jesus in your behaviour and attitude. Marriage and parenting are about showing the next generation the reality of the gospel.
