THE COUP IS GETTING SPENCER FOO Uncategorized

THE COUP IS GETTING SPENCER FOO

It’s enough to make an Albertan wear red. This week one of North Pointe’s own took the next step towards fulfilling his hockey dream. On June 27, 2017 Spencer Foo donned a Flames jersey and signed an NHL contract with the Calgary club as a free agent. Hockey Dreams Ten days earlier Spencer talked with me at NP’s Walk Run Ride For Hope about some of his professional hockey options. It’s nice to have options, isn’t it? Foo was wooed (couldn’t resist) by the NHL’s Oilers, Golden Knights and Red Wings. His image was on arena marquees and billboards. Sportsnet’s sage, Elliotte Friedman, was high on Spencer, as was Bob Stauffer, Oiler’s color commentator. Over the month of June, he…

SHALOM AMIDST THE ANGRY MOBS Uncategorized

SHALOM AMIDST THE ANGRY MOBS

People are angry. Muslims are angry. Christians are angry. Secularists are angry. Lines are being drawn. Sides are being taken. Hate, fear, aggression, and protests abound. Our World Muslims are angry because they feel targeted and misrepresented as a homogenized mass. Christians are angry because they're fearful in a climate of a frenzied media. Secularists are angry because they just want to be left alone to get on with their life. You don’t have to look very far to find an angry mob. And you don’t have to look too far to find a church in the middle of these angry mobs. Aleem Ali Aleem Ali is a product of multiculturalism and grace. The grandson of an Imam, the son of a…

3 POSITIVE PRACTICES OF DADS AND MENTORS Uncategorized

3 POSITIVE PRACTICES OF DADS AND MENTORS

The most important conversation with my dad was as a University student. Though he never attended University he had a Masters degree in life. He taught me a process for making important choices. As a result I chose to stay in University, learned the value of perseverance, got a degree, discovered my calling and soon there’ll be peace in the Middle East. (OK, it wasn’t that good.) Education By Imitation Dad probably copied the process from someone - maybe his father. But isn't that how all the most valuable lessons are learned? Three choices that make dads and anyone worth imitating. Memories Of Presence 1. Be an experience maker. Becoming a father is about biology. Being a dad is about…

MEGAN LEAVEY: LOVE NEVER GIVES UP Uncategorized

MEGAN LEAVEY: LOVE NEVER GIVES UP

Its risky going to a tearjerker of a movie about a dog with a lover of dogs who loved and lost. She loved her Golden Retrievers. Tammy. Sprite. Silver. They were family. Each one was lost to cancer. Not at all like the circumstances in the movie, but everything like the experiences of Megan Leavey. We were the last to leave the theater. Soaking up every detail of the credits gave us time to regather. Spoiler alert! If you plan to see the film and don't know the story, stop reading. Buy two tickets. Take a friend and go directly to see Megan Leavey. Its the summer's heart warmer. Megan Leavey You don't have to be an animal lover to…

RESCUE RAISE REBUILD: WATOTO Uncategorized

RESCUE RAISE REBUILD: WATOTO

Watoto means, "children" in the Swahili language. In any language around the world, Watoto means love because that's what audiences feel when they experience the music. And no doubt about it, Watoto is an experience. Watoto Children’s Choirs have traveled extensively since 1994, sharing a message of hope for Africa’s orphans and widows. To date, the choir has toured six continents and performed to enthralled audiences in schools, retirement homes, churches, parliaments, state houses and royal palaces. Signs And Wonders The choir, whose members are orphans and vulnerable children, will present worship music from Watoto Church in Uganda. Founded by Gary and Marilyn Skinner, Watoto was birthed through Watoto Church in Kampala. Through the power of their testimonies, the children share stories…

ISIS, FORGIVENESS, MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS

Twelve seconds of silence is an awkward eternity on television. Amr Adeeb, perhaps the most prominent talk show host in Egypt, leaned forward as he searched for a response. Moments earlier, Adeeb was watching a colleague speak with the widow of Naseem Faheem, the guard killed by a suicide bomber at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Alexandria, Egypt on Palm Sunday. Across the Middle East and around the world Muslims and Christians are observing in reverent awe an exceptional grace displayed in the face of evil. Forgiveness: Christians Do The Unimaginable 2017-05-31 14:34:45Z | http://piczard.com | http://codecarvings.com Naseem Faheem, the guard at St Mark's Cathedral in Alexandria, Egypt had redirected a suicide bomber through the perimeter metal detector, where the terrorist…

HOLY SPIRIT POWER AND YOU Uncategorized

HOLY SPIRIT POWER AND YOU

Chrome, carnauba wax, and classic cars get your motor running? North Pointe is the place to be on the first Saturday of June 2018. The parking lot is packed with collectors of classics, admirers, and memories from days gone by at our Annual Cruise Into Summer Show 'N Shine. You can't miss the pristine exterior of the cars on display. And the powerful engines under the hoods. I started thinking about the horsepower available in these restored cars and the power of God's Spirit. Horsepower Under The Hood If you like the look of engines then you'll love the next couple of pictures. If not, scroll down... Yesterday's Power Maybe its the name "Bob Pilkie" that got my attention. 4 OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT Uncategorized

4 OBSERVATIONS ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

Fifty days after Good Friday is the forgotten celebration of who Francis Chan calls "the forgotten God."  Christmas and Easter we know, but what about Pentecost? The Day of Pentecost is known as the birthday of the Church. The Holy Spirit is the gift given to everyone who comes to the party. God The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is not an "it" - the Holy Spirit is a person. The Holy Spirit is God. Eternal and holy. Omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. He has emotions, a mind and a will. He is my Counselor. Power For Witness Pentecost is about power. "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you." Power is for witness. "You will be my…

A LOVING GOD IN MANCHESTER Uncategorized

A LOVING GOD IN MANCHESTER

Saffie Rose was only eight. Its easy to imagine the overflowing exuberance as she and her mum exited with the thronging crowd at 10:30pm Manchester time. You've probably seen her photo and noted her smiling innocence - a selfie taken just before the Ariana Grande concert - Saffie's first and last concert. Youngest Victim They didn't hear the explosion - just its devastating effects. As Saffie lay dying, cradled in the arms of a first-aider, she called out for her mum. She was the youngest of the twenty two victims of a terrorist's bomb. Bolts. Nuts. Nails. Embedded into the bodies of the injured. Where was God at Manchester? Sandy Hook The town of Newtown, Connecticut was reeling from the…

REV. PHYLLIS RYAN FISHER: WOMAN OF HOPE

Sixty nine years ago, Phyllis Ryan Fisher was born in Toronto to a loving and resourceful mother who in post war years either cared directly for Phyllis or made sure she was nurtured in wonderful homes surrounded by people who “adopted” her into their families. Small Town Girl Although Phyllis was an only child she collected moms and dads and sisters along the way that enriched her life and helped mold her into the lady she grew to be. This small-town girl loved the water and the Kawartha Lake country where she grew up and never forgot the friends who all loved her as a local girl who was going to make her mark in life. Rev. Bruce and Phyllis…
