2015 learned

When you’re done learning, you’re done.

2015 was a year of firsts – first grandson; first trip to Israel, Germany, France; first Caribbean cruise; first book published.

It was a year of learning and discovery.

15 Things I Discovered In 2015

In random order of importance:

1. If you leave the window of your hotel room open overnight in Tiberias, Israel don’t be surprised if you wake up to find pigeons roosting on your lampshade in the morning.

2. Grandkids are God’s gift of family that can be returned to the manufacturers after every use.

3. Spider Mable is the greatest superhero in Edmonton.2015-12-19 13.32.42

4. Israel is a miracle. Jerusalem is unforgettable. Pilgrimage should be experienced by every believer. Walking where Jesus walked will inspire you to walk as Jesus walked.IMG_4264

5. Everything about Middle Eastern demographics, politics, relationships and conflict is uber complicated. Some Israelis are Arabs. All Arabs are not Muslim. Israel is the primary protector of Palestinian rights. Bethlehem and Jericho are Palestinian states in the heart of Israel.IMG_0249

6. Tracer bullets in the sky at twilight in Jordan means someone is celebrating.

7. A winter vacation to a warm climate is very cool.

8. Married love is the ultimate high. Thirty-six years of holy matrimony leaves me wholly convinced that the secret to happiness is falling in love over and over again with the same person.

9. When God wants to show off, He paints the entire Prairies, overnight, in hoarfrost.2015-12-23 11.56.09

10. Recovery, not balance, is the key to enjoying a paddleboard. If you’re going to paddleboard you’re going to fall off. Learn to get back up. Life’s like that too. Don’t fear falling or failing.

11. Old friends are the best friends.

12. Marketing a book is twice as hard as writing a book, but it connects you with the most interesting people.IMG_0462-10

13. Mistakes, foibles and flaws drew more social media response in 2015 than anything else.

14. Blame El Nino.

15. A baby at Christmas changes everything. His name is Vincent William Jones and even though he was past due he was worth waiting for.2015-12-19 20.13.36
