How is your soul? Thriving? Stressed? Anxious? Overloaded? Take a load off.
We’re all carrying a heavier load. Maybe 25% or at least 10% heavier.
How can we cope?
Peanuts
If you don’t recognize the name, Charles Schultz, you may recognize the comic strip characters he created. Charlie Brown. Lucy. Linus. And my favourite, Snoopy the wonder beagle.
Schultz created comics strips. He was a Christian and often embedded aspects of faith in his comics.
In an insightful comic, Lucy is anxious because of a heavy rainstorm and fearful of a repeat of the Genesis flood.
“What if it floods the whole world?”
Linus matter-of-factly responds, “It will never do that. In the 9th chapter of Genesis, God promises Noah that would never happen again and the sign of the promise is a rainbow”.
A relieved Lucy says, “You’ve taken a great load off my mind.”
Linus responds, “Sound theology has a way of doing that”.
A solid understanding of who God is taks a load off.
Believe Well
Beliefs have a greater impact on your life than you may be aware.
There are four simple things that determine success in life:
- The decisions you make.
- The habits you develop.
- The people you spend time with.
- The beliefs you hold.
And your beliefs impact all the others.
What you believe about God, yourself, and others will impact the decisions you make and the habits you have and the people you will choose to spend time with.
A solid belief in God will take a load off.
Your beliefs drive your actions.
Your actions drive the results you get. If you believe well, you will live well.
God is Good
At God’s core is goodness. God is good. Everything God does is good. That’s sound theology.
Believing that God is good, that God loves you, that he has a purpose for your life, that you are on this earth to live for God’s purpose, will take a load off.
While you may not always see God’s immediate goodness in certain events, mature faith knows that even in difficult times, God’s ultimate plan is for our good.
The storms in your life may try to break you but God is bigger than your storm and He is with you.
What do you think? Do you have a story of a change of beliefs about God or a change of heart?
