Depression is not a choice.
Too many suffer in silence.
In a war with myself.
It won’t leave me alone.
I’m tired of fighting myself.
Trying my best to live.
A lifelong battle with myself.
Will I ever make it?
Its OK to not feel OK
I am not my anxiety.
Mental issues have no color.
I will be OK someday.
Life is tough, I’m tougher.
A day at a time.
Recovery is not always straightforward.
With support I get stronger.
Your story is not over.
Fix my eyes on God.
I’m starting to make progress.
My soul longs after God.
The Bible records raw emotion.
Not all of the experiences of Bible heroes are joyful or instant. Psalm chapters 42 and 43 are the honest expressions of a man of faith, despairing and depressed. His despair did not make him any less loved by God or a man of faith.
His circumstances did not change.
He did.
APPLICATION: Many people facing depression are ashamed or afraid to ask for help. Others shrug off their symptoms and end up suffering in silence. Contrary to some misconceptions, depression is neither inevitable nor is it a character flaw. People with depression often get these ideas because of the feeling of guilt caused by the illness. Depression is a real health problem for which help is available. But you must be aware of it and know how to ask for help. Find help here…

These winter months are the worst for my depression. My meds are a life saver but any stressfull situation sends me flying off the rails. I recede inside and cut myself off from people. I’m so thankful my God still loves me despite myself. But I need to keep reminding myself that He is near and in control.
Thank you Suz for joining the conversation. “any stressful situation sends me flying off the rails” – that is so important for people to know. People facing depression – facing it, like you – have a tenacity and courage that only God may be able to understand. Philippians 4:8 has been a guide for me. I can only focus on one thing at a time so when I feel stressed and distressed I repeat a series of verses – John 1:1-14 – until I feel composed. Its a way of reminding myself that God is in control. God bless.
