God is good at creating solutions before problems arise. It’s a matter of timing and trust to discover God’s solution to your problem, just like this Ukrainian Babushka.
Babushka Aleksandra
Readers of REVwords heard about Babushka Aleksandra in a previous post. My friend Ed Dickson, with Loads of Love, was asked by a friend of a friend, a refugee from Ukraine, if he could visit her 88-year-old grandmother who lives alone near the frontlines in the eastern region in a the town of Kupiansk. The grandmother had broken her hip and they had lost all contact with her. As Ed was flying to Poland, his friend sent him the address of the grandmother’s house.
With the sound of artillery fire in the background, we found the grandmother, prayed with her and promised to have a friend visit her again. She had no medical aid, had not seen a doctor, and her situation looked dire.
On the drive home Ed was forming an idea about what could be done to help her.
House of Mercy
Meanwhile, at a village in central Ukraine, Carolyn Garton, a Canadian from Alliston, Ontario, was busy renovating a house. She had felt prompted by God to purchase the house and renovate it for seniors. Carolyn lives in previously occupied Russian territory just north of Kherson. She decided to call her home, House of Mercy. I met Carolyn in December 2023 and wrote her story.
Ed called Carolyn to see if her House of Mercy for seniors was ready for its first guest, Babushka Aleksandra? On May 9th, Aleksandra was moved from Kupiansk to the village. Carolyn and Tanya, my translator, helped Aleksandra settle into her new residence.
That’s a WOW on so many levels.
- God prompted Carolyn to buy and renovate a house for seniors in 2022.
- A grandmother in Kupiansk breaks her hip in August 2023.
- The grandmother asks God for mercy.
- A day later, two Canadians show up at her door, pray with her and make arrangements for her care.
- One month later she is moved across the country by strangers to live in a home recently renovated for seniors by another Canadian.
Carolyn responded to God’s prompting to go to Ukraine in 2019, stay in Ukraine during a war, move to a small village, buy and renovate a house of mercy for seniors.
God’s Solution For You
God provided a solution for Aleksandra before she even had a problem.
What are you facing? Finances? Relationship? Forgiveness? A new start? A new job?

God is so in control of our lives. This is such a great story about this little lady. God is Good all the time. Thanks for sharing this amazing story.
God Is so good! I have been following all the stories from the Ukraine Pastor Bob.
But this one tugged at my heart strings, tears running as I type this.
My Baba lived with us after a stroke and my mom cared for her for several years.
I cannot imagine my baba lying in a bed as this Babushka did. My baba read her bible each day
and she probably prayed for us for years, one day we will unite in heaven. I pray for this Babushka
and her new home and also her eternal home.
I’ll update the post with pictures I received today. She is now singing worship songs with Carolyn and her team.
