Can any man unquestionably be called the greatest man who ever lived? How do you measure a man’s greatness? By his military genius? his physical strength? his mental prowess?
Vigour
The historian H. G. Wells said that a man’s greatness can be measured by “what he leaves to grow, and whether he started others to think along fresh lines with a vigour that persisted after him.” Wells, although not claiming to be a Christian, acknowledged: “By this test Jesus stands first.”
The Greatest Man in History
He had no servants, yet they called Him Master,
had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher
had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
He had no army, yet kings feared Him,
won no military battles, yet He conquered the world,
did not live in a castle, yet they called Him Lord,
He ruled no nations, yet they called Him King,
committed no crime, yet they crucified Him,
was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.
His kingdom is not of this world yet it lies within the hearts of those who believe.
He spoke of love and forgiveness and his words have transformed millions.
He offers no material wealth yet we consider him the treasure of our lives.
Though he left no written his words his words have filled countless pages.
He offers no early power yet in his name the powerless have found strength.
In his weakness we find our strength
In his suffering we find our salvation.
He continues to invite us into a story of redemption, love, and eternal life.
His name is Jesus Christ.

Momentous
The Historians’ History of the World observed: “The historical result of [Jesus’] activities was more momentous, even from a strictly secular standpoint, than the deeds of any other character of history. A new era, recognized by the chief civilizations of the world, dates from his birth.”
For countless billions of years, before even the physical universe was created, Jesus lived as a spirit person in heaven and enjoyed intimate fellowship with his Father, Jehovah God, the Grand Creator.—Proverbs 8:22, 27-31.
Then, about two thousand years ago, God transferred his Son’s life to the womb of a woman, and Jesus came to be a human son of God, born in the normal manner through a woman. (Galatians 4:4)
Colossians 1:22-23 (NIV)
…he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.
This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven…
Romans 11:33-36 (NIV)
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselour?”
35 “Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”
36 For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.
