My friend in Ukraine sent me a video and some photos this week. That’s not unusual but this time my heart skipped a beat when I looked at the images.
Rocket Attack
The images were from a hotel in Ukraine. The Hotel hosted a Loads of Love workers conference in April 2024. That was an inspiring, joyful day, filled with prayer, and testimonies. I was asked to share teaching from the Bible.
A Russian missile struck that hotel in Kryvyi Rih late at night on August 26. Four people were killed and at least five were hospitalized. I’ve sadly read multiple stories about Russia’s attack on Ukrainian hospitals, schools, day cares, coffee shops, apartments and hotels, but this one hit close to home.
The beautiful dining area where we enjoyed a sumptuous lunch was at the centre of the strike. The area in the lobby where I had my picture taken with Pastor Serhii from Zaporizhzhia was now rubble. Emergency personnel now stood where we were served lunch by smartly dressed attendants.
Now its all gone.
The biggest rocket attack of the war happened over two days in the week of August 26th. Russia fired the most missiles since the war started. Fortunately, Ukrainians have use of F-16s and other defensive weapons but they cannot stop all the missiles from wreaking havoc on the civilian population.
Leading Through the Pain
My friends live with rocket alerts every day and often throughout the entire night.
Such is life in Ukraine in August 2024. But my friends continue serving God and country, undeterred. They care for orphans, help the displaced, feed the hungry, pray for the traumatized, share the gospel, and shelter the homeless. They are the heroes.
I share their have hope for peace and a better future for Ukraine.
