You don’t need to suffer alone, in silence. That is the loud and clear message of CRESCENDO.

CRESCENDO

Get Loud About About Mental Health is the subtitle of my latest book and the mission of CRESCENDO, the passion of longtime friend, John Cameron.

John mixed his two favourite things—music and charity—and CRESCENDO came into being in 2017, in order to motivate people to do good on behalf of one of his passions: mental health. John succeeded in bringing mental health out from the sidelines and onto the stage.

“It’s my greatest joy to share the talents of hundreds of Albertans, sing our way into the hearts of the audience and speak about a very important subject.” CRESCENDO is a brilliant idea. One note, one song, one life at a time.

The book is a compliation of stories and was written to offer hope to those battling with mental health issue. All proceeds from sales of the book go to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in support of mental health. Copies are available for $20 + shipping ($7.63). Order your copies by sending an etransfer for $27.63 and your mailing address to  bob.pb.jones@gmail.com

John Cameron is devoted to the cause because of his own lifetime battle with mental health. He opens up in the first chapter and shares his own and his father’s experiences. John was on staff with me at Central Tabernacle in the 90s. Since then he started the John Cameron Changing Lives Foundation with two Edmonton favourites: The Edmonton Singing Christmas Tree and Crescendo. I have the privilege of serving on the Board of the Foundation.

Stories of Hope

Emmanuel “Mannie” Fonte is the creative genius behind the orchestration, the 150-voice choir, orchestra, and the stellar local talent featured in the concerts. Mannie courageously shares about his battles with the effects of teenage abuse.

Michael Landsberg, known to most sports fans from his years as a host on TSN, is a featured speaker at CRESCENDO and tells his story in chapter 3.

A hi-lite of the book are the stories of men and women who took the stage at Crescendo and brought audiences to their feet with their vulnerability and hope.

The work of mental health is far from easy, but John coaches himself, “Keep going. Keep on fighting. Keep raising money and helping as many people as we can.”

All it takes for John to find the will to keep going is remembering people like Taylor Poulter whose story is in the book. She bravely shared her mental health journey at CRESCENDO 2022 in Calgary, at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. She told the audience that she began suffering from severe anxiety and depression when she was just ten-years old. Now at twenty-two, she tells her story to shed light on the struggles that so many young people face and to help make a positive difference for others.

Good Morning Pastor Bob! I loved the book. We were gifted the book by John Cameron. I have a special place in my heart singing with Crescendo & The Singing Christmas Tree. I have made so many great connections through the choir. It is awesome to sing with my Choir Sisters & Brothers. I enjoy volunteering my time, because I don’t have the money to donate. Thank you for sharing this blog with us. Have a great week! ❣️
