“Welcome home, friend.”
“Steve?”
The unmistakable voice of Steve McQueen hadn’t lost it’s edge.
Billy And Steve
On November 3, 1980, four days before his death from cancer, Hollywood’s “Mr Cool” had his wish come true. McQueen wanted to meet evangelist Billy Graham for some time, and on that day, Mr. Graham paid him a visit. The pair prayed together and talked about the afterlife. McQueen told him how his faith in Christ helped him deal with the cancer.
At the end of their meeting, Billy Graham left McQueen his personal Bible. Inside, he wrote the date, along with a message: “To my friend Steve McQueen, may God bless and keep you always.”
He signed his name, along with a reference to a Bible verse, Philippians 1:6: “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
Face To Face With Jesus
Billy Graham’s Bible became McQueen’s most valued possession. He died on Nov.ember 7 – Billy Graham’s 62nd birthday – and was found clutching that Bible.
Thirty seven years passed until they met again – this time in heaven.
February 21, 2018 – Dr. Billy Graham inhaled his first breath of heavenly air. The man who made “come to Jesus” an invitation accepted by millions of people around the world, met Jesus – face to face.
He was a confidant/confessor of American Presidents and was equally welcomed in capitalist and Communist countries. He was the unofficial chaplain to the nation’s power brokers.
“Had it not been for the ministry of my good friend Dr. Billy Graham, my work in the civil rights movement would not have been as successful as it has been.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Focused On Jesus
Billy Graham refused to be marginalized by becoming a lightening rod for moral issues like the pro-choice movement and segregation.
He was focused on preaching the Good News of Jesus. (The Graham’s Golf And The Gospel)
“I have one message: that Jesus Christ came, he died on a cross, he rose again, and he asked us to repent of our sins and receive him by faith as Lord and Savior, and if we do, we have forgiveness of all of our sins.”
“There comes a moment when we all must realize that life is short, and in the end the only thing that really counts is not how others see us, but how God sees us.” Billy Graham
The Jones Family
The Jones family are eternally grateful for his focus.
My mum became a believer in Jesus at a Billy Graham Crusade in Toronto. That led to my father rededicating his life to Jesus. Their choices influenced my decision as a child to accept Jesus as my personal Saviour.
My parents are in heaven, along with Steve McQueen and millions of others saying, “Thank you for giving to the Lord. I am a life that was changed.”
Thank you, Dr. Graham.
