confidence-boost

In 1894 Orison Marden wrote a book about confidence that influenced two American Presidents, the Prime Minister of England and Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone and J. P. Morgan, to name a few.

Can you name the book?

The book went through 50 printings and was known and read in every country in the world.

Marden compiled the book in his spare time as a businessman. His years of effort went up in smoke when a hotel he was staying in en route to publish his life work, burned down. All he had left was his nightshirt.

After getting new clothes he bought a 25-cent notebook and with the ruins of the hotel still smoldering, began writing his book from memory.

10 Confidence Builders

1. You were born to be confident.

When you have confidence you can have fun. And when you have fun you can accomplish amazing things.

“There can be no great courage where there is no confidence or assurance, and half the battle is in the conviction that we can do what we undertake.” Orison Swett Marden

2. Be grateful for what you have.

3. Be positive even if you don’t feel positive.

“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face… we must do that which we think we cannot.” Eleanor Roosevelt

4. Expect success.

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” Dale Carnegie

5. Acknowledge your strengths. Focus on them.

“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” Norman Vincent Peale

6. Stick to your principles.

7. Accept compliments gratefully and graciously.

8. Embrace the unknown.

9. Trust God.

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. Confident people experience self-doubt, fear, hesitation, physical limitations, setbacks, failure. The difference is, they pushed their way through to confidence.” Helen Keller

10. God loves you and created you to know Him and succeed in life.

“The most important thing for me is having a relationship with God. To know that the owner, the creator of the universe loves you, sent His Son to die for your sins; that’s very empowering. Knowing Him and knowing that He loves me gives me encouragement and confidence to move forward.” Dr. Ben Carson

I would like to embrace the unknown and live on the edge and that would mean I would have to trust God. YIKES! (Bob Goff)
