Kate has cancer. On March 22, 2024 the world leaned in to know more.

Kate Has Cancer

All you had to do late in the afternoon of March 22nd in the Central Time zone was google the word “Kate” and up popped 1.9 billion hits.

Hers was the two minute and fifteen second video watched around the world.

Are you a Royals follower? If so, you are familiar with way more info than I could ever imagine. I was struck by the candor and compassion with which Princess Kate spoke of her children and other cancer warriors. And maybe it’s the British accent but her words were enthralling.

The Princess is not the only Kate that I know who is battling cancer.

Princess Kate’s story is like so much of life. She required abdominal surgery. Surgery is never easy because it means you have a significant problem. The surgery was successful. That was good. But cancer was detected because of the surgery. That’s not good. But detecting the cancer this early in its growth and her young age factor together to say this was a blessing to her.

Like so much of life, the bad can be a revelation of something that can be good.

Crystal Clear Clarity

When the Prince and Princess of Wales considered how to break the news of Kate’s cancer diagnosis, their first question was not, “How will we tell the world?” but, “How will we tell the children?”

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits. Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.”

The Princess is an absolute stranger to us but its comforting to know that she in good spirits and there is an overall sense of optimism. When you’re the wife and mother of heirs to the throne of Britain, you have a lot of sway. Your words matter. She choose wise words about what matters most to communicate with the world.

Life and death crisis has an unequaled way of creating crystal clear clarity about what’s important in life. No one is beyond the reach of crisis. Not even royalty.

My friends in Ukraine get that. Russian attacks across the nation mean no one is safe.

Kate gets it. Jocelyn gets it. And so does our friend Kate.

The Wisdom of a Princess

If you missed seeing the video, it’s worth 2:15 of your day.

Prayers for Kate and all who are battling through crisis.

Are you going through crisis? Have you recently been in a crisis? You will understand more than others the grace required.

To tell you the truth…when all the news about her abdominal surgery came out, & they mentioned how long she was going to take to recover…I actually mentioned to my friend…I think they found something when they did the surgery…& it might be Cancer. & Then her video came out. I wasn’t surprised & my friend and I talked about it. It would be extremely tough…to digest that news yourself & be a person who is watched in public 24/7. It’s hard enough when you are just a “regular” person dealing with Cancer. But, to be in the public eye & dealing with all the emotion and uncertainty. It would be brutal. Working at The Cross Cancer Institute for 22+ years…that was the first thing that I thought when she made her surgery public. I felt really uneasy about the whole situation. I felt such empathy for her when she made it public…that she had Cancer. I have seen so many patients go through their journeys. Successes…but alot of sadness too. Thank you for sharing this blog with us Pastor Bob. As I think we all know someone in our lives (family and friends) who have dealt with Cancer. Praying that one day, they will find a cure for it.
