Parents obsess over car seats, bike helmets and sunscreen. It’s why you pack lunches, track down sports gear and drive all over town for school supplies. You prepare your kids because you love them. How prepared are your kids for Canada’s changing culture?

Culture Shift

Are your kids prepared for the questions they’ll face in the classroom with answers that will serve them well?

You can let your kids flounder in a sea of skepticism or you can help them face the challenges that will come their way.

Kids can learn to think critically and express their beliefs in a reasonable manner.

Conversations To Have With Your Kids

If you’re not sure where to find answers to tough questions, you definitely need to check out Keeping Your Kids On God’s Side by Natasha Crain. It’s a guide for parents to help kids answer difficult questions about their faith.

Keeping Your Kids On God’s Side will be the text used in a group for parents offered at North Pointe starting this Fall – Grassroots Apologetics for Parents (GAP) Our mission is to help close the GAP that exists for parents between knowing  their kids’ faith will challenged and knowing what to do about it. Erich Reule will be hosting the group starting Monday September 10th at 7:00pm. Erich’s a dad to five daughters who have dinner table conversations about issues of faith. He will be hosting an info session about GAP on Monday August 13th at 7:00pm at North Pointe.

Keeping Your Kids On God’s Side is divided into five parts:

Conversations about…
1) God
2) Truth and Worldviews
3) Jesus
4) the Bible
5) Faith

Each section has several of the most common questions kids may encounter or think about, and how best to respond biblically to them.

I think the book is excellent not only for parents, but for any Christian.

Answers To Tough Questions

Crain explores questions like:

  • How can Christianity claim to be the only path to God?
  • Why does a good God allow suffering?
  • What evidence is there that God created the universe?
  • How can Christians believe miracles are possible?

With tangible illustrations from everyday life, Crain makes this material so accessible that you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to get it.

In fact that may be a well founded criticism of the book. If you’re looking for an in-depth, theologically deep treatise on complex issues, this book will leave you wanting. But what child needs that? If anything, kids need to know that their parents – and they as well –  can feel comfortable with the questions they face in the classroom.

APPLICATION: Copies of Keeping Your Kids On God’s Side will be available in the Next Steps Bookstore at North Pointe on Sunday August 12th.
