cancer – small “c” because I refuse to give it any power – is something that happens to someone else and you feel sad for them and thankful it’s not you, until it happens to you.
Mitch Dick is a lifelong Montreal Canadians fan, happily married to Brad, mom to Arielle and April, and a

Mitch Dick
On June 1, 2018, I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in both breasts and left side lymph nodes. My world dimmed a little that day. Ah, but, it was not to last. The Son came in and made the sun shine again.
In my opinion, being an open, sharing type of person at a time like this is beneficial.
Firstly, I told my nearest and dearest, then my work peeps, then my church peeps, then my friend peeps and then posted it on North Pointe’s Ladies Facebook Group. And later on formed my own Facebook group asking everyone I told along the way for prayers for both myself and my family because they are also going through this. I’m pretty sure I’m on a few prayer chains around the country as well.
The Peace Of God
Not long after that, I felt completely covered in copious amounts of prayer, love, positive thoughts and support. You really never know how much you are loved until you reach out with a need. You tend to forget that God is REALLY there in your darkest moments.
I had heard and read about and even likely spoken about Philippians 4:7 (ESV) – “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
BUT, I had never REALLY understood the power of that PEACE. Until now.
People comment on how well I’m taking this and ask things like how are you not losing your mind and telling me how they would be constantly crying if it were them. That’s not to say I haven’t had my moments of anguish and emotions swinging like a barn door in a brisk breeze while riding on a roller coaster. They are very few though and at first I said I didn’t know, however, now I know and say “It is God’s peace.”
And because of that peace I also feel joy.
My Journey
A few days after finding out, I said to God, “Use me in this journey – however you see fit – whatever that looks like. To You be the Glory.”
If I could nudge just one person over that faith line…
…help just one person ease their way through their journey…
…be an example of God’s peace at work…
this will all be worth it.
Peace
May you experience God’s peace and joy in your life; whatever it is you are going through.
Reach out for it.
Grasp it.
Hold onto it because it really is beyond understanding and it is beautiful.

My wife and I are both receiving treatment for cancer. I can tell you with confidence that without our faith , church family and prayer this would be a much tougher journey. I truly feel for all who suffer with this terrible disease who witness such agonizing treatment.
