Every Olympic medal winner has attitude. In fact medals aren’t won without a winning attitude.
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude is more important than facts,
than the past,
than education,
than money,
than circumstances,
than failure,
than successes,
than what other people think or say or do.
You have a choice everyday regarding the attitude you will embrace each day.
11 Olympic Attitudes
1. “Hard days are the best because that’s when champions are made.” Gabby Douglas, Gold medal 2012
2. “I used to beat myself up everyday if I did not win an event. I am quite open about those things now and that has been a big change.” Leisl Jones, 9 Olympic medals (2 Gold)
3. “You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get”. Michael Phelps, 21 Olympic Gold medals (and counting)
4.“Being your best is not so much about overcoming the barriers other people place in front of you as it is about overcoming the barriers we place in front of ourselves. It has nothing to do with how many times you win or lose. It has no relation to where you finish in a race or whether you break world records. But it does have everything to do with having the vision to dream, the courage to recover from adversity and the determination never to be shifted from your goals.” Kieren Perkins, 4 Olympic medals (2 Gold)
5. “If you allow yourself to dream you can do anything.” Clara Hughes, the Canadian with most Olympic medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze)
6. “I encourage everybody and challenge everybody to strive towards their goals. . . . There will be ups and there will be downs, but just keep working towards them and don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it.” Catriona LeMay Doan, 3 Olympic Medals (2 Gold, 1 Bronze)
7. “I am so blessed to have had such constant love and support and encouragement throughout all my years as a speed skater.” Tamara Oudenaarden, Winter Olympics Team 2010
8. “We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances…” Viktor E. Frankl, “Auschwitz survivor” medal
9. “There is very little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude”. W. Clement Stone
10. “You can’t always control circumstances. However, you can always control your attitude, approach, and response. Your options are to complain or to look ahead and figure out how to make the situation better.” Coach Tony Dungy
11. “Your attitude should be the kind that was shown us by Jesus Christ, who, though he was God, did not demand and cling to his rights as God, but laid aside his mighty power and glory, taking the disguise of a slave and becoming like men. And he humbled himself even further, going so far as actually to die a criminal’s death on a cross.” Philippians 2:5-8 (Living Bible)
