Charlie Brown, Taylor Swift and even the Grinch share one thing in common – they all know that Christmas “doesn’t come from a store.”

When “A Charlie Brown Christmas” was first broadcast fifty-seven years ago, some network executives worried that quoting the Bible would offend viewers.
Some wanted its creator, Charles Schulz, to omit the Christmas story, but Schulz insisted it stay in. The program was an immediate success and has been rebroadcast every year since 1965.
Christmas Doesn’t Come From A Store
Taylor Swift’s written and recorded hundreds of songs and dozens of albums. Her first Christmas song was entitled, “Christmas Must Be Something More.”
“So here’s something you should know that is for sure,
Christmas must be something more.”
The Meaning of Christmas
When Charlie Brown, the frustrated director of the children’s Christmas play, is discouraged by the commercial spirit of the holiday season, he asks if anyone can tell him the real meaning of Christmas.
Linus recites Luke 2:8-14 (KJV) including the words, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
Then Linus says, “That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
Winter Solstice And A Savior
The Winter Solstice is the most magical, horrible, dark, spiritual and stressful time of the year. As long as man has existed, this time of year – the shortest stretch of sunlight – has been celebrated as a time of fear, change, courage, and passion.
Then Christmas came.
The First Noel changed darkness to light and fear to hope.
“Fear not, for unto you is born this day, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Good news…great joy…for all who believe.
I Believe in Christmas
It’s worth celebrating that Jesus came to earth—His birth signaled hope for all mankind.
As He lived out a perfect life before God and mankind, He showed that He truly was God’s Son.
By giving His life on the cross, He completely paid the penalty for my sin.
I believe that Jesus is alive and will make real His love, mercy, and hope to YOU.

I’m in my classroom, it’s the end of the day, and I hear grade 7 students arguing if mermaids are real. Remember being 12? I don’t believe in mermaids (I hate to say), but I believe in Christmas. My sister-in-law passed away 11 months ago. Christmas is hard this year, but I still believe. I mean, what are my options really? Not to believe? Where would that get me? Or my unsaved family?
My unsaved dad came to church last Sunday to hear the choir sing, after the invitation of my unsaved mom. She had such a great time the weekend before. During the playing of the snare drum by Katelyn Kimo, I leaned over to my dad to say, “Pretty good, huh?” His response? “It’s brilliant!”
My belief is that the power of the true meaning of Christmas would not fall on deaf ears and a cold heart. That Christmas would mean a little bit more…
